Freshwater pearls are made from mussels in freshwater rivers. After being implanted with a piece of mantle tissue from another oyster, the mussels are put back into the river where they may be tended for 2 - 6 years. The pearls are rarely round, but are of solid nacre. Freshwater pearls are a beautiful resource for creating affordable pearl jewelry that is lustrous and freshwater pearls are also more durable than saltwater pearls. Time Is a Circle
Three wonderful strands make up this freshwater pearl bracelet. Two strands have silver Biwa pearls with little rings on them (I hadn't really seen any Biwa pearls quite like these before) alternated with Swarovski crystals in crystal shadow. The third strand is made of large round hand-decorated links of Thai Karen Hill Tribes sterling silver chain. (I love this chain). The chain would be a heavy look for most pearls, but looks as though it was made for these Biwa freshwater pearls. A hand-decorated sterling silver toggle clasp is the closure. This freshwater pearl bracelet is bolder than any of our other pearl bracelets.

More of our Baroque pearls: these are a lovely iridiscent peacock with little freshwater pearls of varying dark colours between them. These are not shaped like a coin, so I guess coin pearls would be the wrong name for them since they are square-but Baroquely square so that in some places it looks like the pearls are dripping. These freshwater pearls are wonderfully unusual and very beautiful. Once again, a photo is difficult--these have no yellow. This freshwater pearl bracelet has a vermeil toggle clasp and it looks great with the dark pearls. Pearl bracelet can be sized to fit you (as can all of our bracelets!)
