Iolite Jewelry
We love iolite jewelry and iolite gemstones. Iolite is an unusual stone; because of pleochroism, the early Vikings used very thin pieces of iolite as a lens to determine planetary postitions and navigation.
The name iolite came from the Greek word "ios" which actually means violet. There are 3 colours in iolite, depending on the way that one looks at it (and making it very difficult for gem-cutters) - blue, violet, and yellow. It was also known as "water-sapphire" and high-quality iolite does resemble sapphire.
Iolite Jewelry with Freshwater Pearls
Blue Moon
My favorite piece of iolite jewelry is this 5 strand bracelet of iolite. The iolite beads are both smooth and faceted, coins, nuggets, ovals, and rounds. A beautiful silver-laced blue and purple lampwork bead by Robin Weber, one of my favorite lampwork artists, is in the middle of the bracelet. The clasp makes the bracelet really unforgetable; it's an oval sterling box clasp with a bezel-set cabochon rainbow moonstone that gleams blue in every light! Personal favorite. Rajani
A classic and elegant combination but unusual for iolite jewelry: double strands of beautiful silver freshwater pearls leading to 3 nuggets of dark blue iolite. The iolite is surrounded by bright or "white" sterling silver accents and Bali sterling silver hand-decorated beads. A curved sterling silver lobster clasp is the closure and a bright Karen Hill Tribes sterling silver charm hangs beside it. Perfect to dress up - but will look classically great with a navy blue blazer, too.

Rain Song in Blue
My new favorite iolite bracelet is this double stranded iolite and lampwork. A great box clasp iwth two bezel set iolites make this bracelet special as do all the different types of iolites, smooth nuggets, little rounds, faceted ovals, faceted nuggets, faceted rondelles. A pretty sterling silver rosebud hangs beside the sterling clasp. This will look great with your other iolite jewelry or just as special on its own.

Iolite Jewelry - Vermeil and Iolite Jewelry
Bangalore Singing
Iolite jewelry from the Raj Collection includes this iolite bracelet that also features emerald nuggets and small ruby rondelles - all genuine stones. Iolite is a fitting gemstone to go with emeralds and rubies since it was often called the "water-sapphire", and really, much of the iolite I've seen resembles more what I think of when I envision deep blue sapphires than the actual sapphire gemstone! Like many of the pieces of jewelry from the Raj Collection, this has vermeil accents and a vermeil toggle clasp closure. The bracelet has charms hanging at intervals from the bracelet - gemstone charms. A gorgeous artist's lampwork bead brings the colours of the bracelet together. And just for a bit of added interest, a 14 karat gold-filled chain links from the clasp to the middle of the bracelet. Can't you hear Bangalore singing?

Iolite jewelry travels best inside its velvet pouch.
Night in Borneo
An iolite bracelet created from iolite rondelles and vermeil (24 karat gold layered over sterling silver) and pretty faceted iolite nuggets from Jaipur. The iolite is such a romantic stone! A vermeil toggle clasp is the closure. The iolites are a bit lighter than the photo suggests - a bit bluer.
