Ouro Preto is Portugues for black gold which is how suppliers have come to refer to this amazonite with brown and black inclusions. Now many people don't like inclusions in their gemstones, prefering a pure colour without any so-called flaws. As many of you know, I don't fall into that category since I sometimes prefer the patterns and intricacies of the inclusions in some gemstones to the plainess of perfection. In the case of amazonite as in the case of many gemstones, I like both. Here the inclusions give pattern and complexity to the very large amazonite stones so that the necklace is much more interesting than it would have been with plain one colour stones. I love these huge gemstones which are not always easy to get; they look great for necklaces, substantial while staying simple. Sterling silver clasp.
