Apatite Jewelry
Most people are unfamiliar with the gemstone or mineral known as apatite, and apatite jewelry is fairly rare although the gem is beautiful, especially in its blue-green colour or neon blue-green apatite (from Madagascar). So why the rarity? It is a rather soft gemstone, rating a 5 on the Moh's hardness scale. It can be difficult to work with, and I have the broken apatite in my studio to prove it. However, once the apatite jewelry is made, apatite is usually fine as long as you treat it with the care you would any good gemstone. (Fluorite, common for beaded jewelry, rates a 4 on the Moh's hardness scale).
Apatite comes from the Greek word for deceit since it was so easily confused with other gemstones.
Apatite Jewelry - Apatite Bracelets
The Happiness of Colour
The colours in this bracelet are beautiful. Our favorite shade of apatite, an aqua-turquoise colour, is complemented by artist's lampwork beads that add touches of pink to the mix. Handmade sterling silver beads from Bali and the Thai Karen Hill Tribes add wonderful texture. The toggle clasp is also sterling silver. This piece of apatite jewelry is one of our favorites!

My Stargazer
This apatite bracelet is made from pretty faceted coins of "peacock" apatite - so-called because of the peacock blue - a cross between a teal and a dark turquoise, I think, of the apatite. Gorgeous beads by master lampworker Robin Weber shine here with a medley of colours encased in glass. The bracelet is also special because of the prettiest dragonfly tube beads of sterling from the Thai Karen Hilltribes that make this a bangle bracelet. Looking for a different bracelet? Here it is!
