Hello, I'm Cluny Grey; I hope that you enjoy my website.
I have been obssessed with jewelry as long as I can remember. I
started drawing jewelry when I was a teenager, dreaming of the
jewelry that I wanted to own someday. But after graduate school and
2 graduate degrees, I embarked on an academic career, reared my
son, and began to travel. On these travels to Egypt, India, Brazil,
Greece, I found myself buying jewelry, wanting more than I could
possibly wear, then buying stones and finally beads. After
designing pieces and having my local jeweler set my stones for me,
I decided to start making my own jewelry. I quit teaching in 2003
and now travel whenever I can; and when I can't, I'm at home with
my husband and cats, making jewelry, writing The Jewelry Blog and
scouring the internet for the best stones and beads I can
find!

Payment with Credit Cards, Paypal, Money Order or Personal
Check
Customers who are new to PayPal are no longer required to
create a PayPal account to complete a purchasethey will go through
an alternate checkout, and will have the option to sign up
afterward. It is as though they are going through any other
shopping cart -only a very secure one since none of your
information is on this website. Customers who already have PayPal
accounts will continue to enjoy the privileges of those accounts,
such as payment history and integration with eBay Auctions, and
their checkout experience will remain the same. Payment: We
use Paypal as our shopping cart because we like to use it to
pay for items online ourselves. Now anyone can pay using a
credit card, and Paypal is one of the fastest and safest ways to
pay online with special buyer protection built in. However,
we also take personal checks and money orders in payment. If
you pay by personal check, please allow an extra 8 - 10 days before
your item ships.
Shipping Information
Shipping: We use the USPS for our shipping and first class
shipping in the USA is free! We do ask that you insure all
purchases totaling over $50.00. If you need overnight or
express shipping, please let us know.
Sizing Your Jewelry
We believe that jewelry must fit comfortably. We want you
to wear handcrafted designer jewelry and enjoy every piece that you
have. So we resize free of charge--even if you have to send
it back after you've bought it--there's still no charge!
Jewelry Components
Our handcrafted designer jewelry is made using natural gemstones,
freshwater pearls, sterling silver, gold-fill, and vermeil.
Gemstones: All the gemstones we use are genuine; most are
"natural" although some of the stones have been heat-treated; very
few are dyed. Pineapple "quartz", cherry "quartz," and a few
other "quartz" stones are sometimes called quartz, but are actually
glass. Cluny Grey usually does not use these, but if we do,
we always put quotation marks around the "quartz" so that you know
this is most likely glass or man-made.
Our Pearls
Our pearls are genuine cultured freshwater pearls which are
sometimes dyed.
The Metals We Use
Unless specifically stated, ALL Cluny Grey handcrafted designer
silver jewelry is genuine sterling silver with a silver content as
required by law or higher.
Gold-fill is not the same as gold-plate. Gold-fill will
last a lifetime with proper care. Vermeil is gold that is plated
over sterling silver. It is of a higher quality than ordinary
gold-plate that one finds on many pieces of costume jewelry, and
with care, it too, will last a lifetime.
The lampwork glass we use is made by individual artists one bead
at a time here in America unless otherwise specifically
stated. We buy these beads directly from the artists
themselves so we can vouch for their authenticity.
Swarovski Crystals
Swarovski crystals are the finest crystals obtainable to
jewelry-makers.
SOLD ITEMS
You will see some items that have the word SOLD marked before and after the name of the piece; when you see this, remember that our pieces are one of a kind. We leave the pictures and info on the site for a while after they have been sold so that our customers have the opportunity to see designs and perhaps request something similar. It's always best to e-mail and ask us first if we can make a piece that will be similar; sometimes the components, especially lampwork beads, can be impossible to obtain or take quite a while to do so. In some cases, it could take more than a month to reassemble the various components if we do not have them in stock. If you buy a piece that has already been marked SOLD, please be prepared to wait or e-mail us first.
Occasionally we wil use seed or bugle beads for our designs; we
buy top quality beads; they are made of glass.
Vintage Components
The vintage beads we use in some of our designs may be made from
lucite, resin, gemstones, pearl, shell, or other materials.
If we say that we have used vintage beads in a piece that means
that they could be made from a variety of materials.
Jewelry Care for Our Handcrafted Designer Jewelry
If your piece contains silver, remember it is sterling and can
tarnish. Tarnishing is a natural process caused by oxidation,
and does not damage the silver. Tarnish can easily be removed
by rubbing the piece gently with a soft, treated polishing
cloth. Polishing cloths may be purchased from a local jewelry
store as well as from many department and discount stores.
You should avoid wearing handcrafted designer jewelry while swimming, doing the
dishes, cleaning with chemicals or anything else where the jewelry
would come into contact with abrasive soaps or chemicals.
