SOLDUpriver from CochinSOLD
The name comes from a trip I took in Kerala, India. We flew to Cochin, spent a night or two in the city of spices, then boarded a boat that reminded me something of the old Africa Queen as we chugged north from Cochin on a wide, murky river. We sat on the very top deck of the boat, drinking strange sodas flavored with cardomon or lime, watching the life on the river and the shores as we passed people busy with their everyday routines. The sun shone hot; my son said that with my salwar kameez, dupatta, and make-up, I looked like a Bollywood actress. I wore jewelry, emeralds and rubies and garnets with pearls, too and gold. It was, after all, India, and I could catch glimpses of the women bathing in the river, washing their hair, still wearing their gold and diamond nose rings and ornate earrings. Emerald bracelets nearly always remind me of India, but this one evokes that particular time and place and trip, one of those rare times when you are completely happy and fortunate enough to know that you are at the same time. A large faceted emerald nugget (opaque) is the focal; translucent faceted nuggets are on one side of the bracelet while little translucent and opaque rondelles are on the other. 14 karat goldfilled charms, beads, and clasp hold everything together.
